[film] - Tony Jaa is the heir apparant to the throne of martial arts movie gods. His first film, Ong-Bak (english and japanese trailers(mov)) pulled off the acrobatics of Jet Li, without the wirework assistance. His upcoming film Tom Yum Goong(mov) looks to be higher budget, but just as raw. (via)

shaolinchamber's Trailer Gallery. Hundreds, all in wmv format. many are goofy as hell. You can see where lots of the modern genre's cliches and archetypes originated (from plot to character to phrasing to props).
some random recommendations: 5 Master of Death, Iron Monkey, Legend of the Red Dragon, The Magnificent Trio, Master of the Flying Guillotine, Hands of Death, Mantis Boxer, Drunken Master, Martial Arts of Shaolin.
Your best bet for actually renting these, is your local chinatown.
see also top ten martial art films, and this compilation.
see also the GreenCine | Hong Kong Action genre primer.

if you've read all that, then you love the genre, in which case you simply must watch Kung Fu Hustle (2004). spoofalicious. by the creator of Shaolin Soccer.

[media] - Blue tits get their own show. Now take this to the next level, with thousands of species, all in their native habitats, cameras embedded in nests and warrens and dens and burrows, broadcast to the net and compiled into an access-on-demand database so we can create our own time lapse edits, and watch the nurturing of an entire generation of fauna.
Similarly, i want access to more foreign channels, purely for background static. To give the hum of human existence without the distraction of recognizable dialogue. [commercials/advertisements are generally most annoying due to voice-overs that you can't not listen to..)

June 21, 2000 - 1:55 AM

Adrian Grenier is going places.
I just watched The Adventures of Sebastian Cole which i cannot say enough good things about. I've been waiting for a movie like this for years, and just didnt know it. Its real life, about noone in particular, who does nothing much; and its beautiful, and dark, and sad, and happy, and long, and short.
then i skip over to his biography, and notice that he is about to play a part in a new John Waters movie, Cecil B. DeMented, which also looks as if it might be fantastic ("Plot Outline: A lunatic indie-film director and his renegade group of teenage film makers kidnap an A-list hollywood actress and force her to star in their underground film [melanie griffith]")
.
